We use our own vehicles and drivers and will collect equipment from any mainland UK location at a pre agreed time that suits you. Every collection is returned to our processing centre same day.

Our modern fleet of vehicles are equipped with the very latest satellite tracking systems and all our drivers are security cleared. Our vehicles are issued with appropriate IT equipment cages and packaging to ensure safe transit and limit possible damage to sensitive IT equipment.

Equipment can be collected loose, caged or palletized.

Once returned to our approved recycling partner, all equipment is segregated into non-hazardous and hazardous equipment. Equipment is further segregated into PC’s, laptops, printers, monitors and servers. All other equipment is classified as general equipment.

Every item of equipment is bar-coded and allocated its own unique asset number to facilitate future audit trails. Equipment ID, specification and details of condition are taken and uploaded into the asset report.

Although tailorable our basic service offerings can be summarised as follows:

  • Onsite audit
  • Collections and logistics
  • Equipment auditing including asset report
  • Equipment refurbishment and remarketing
  • Equipment refurbishment, management and redeployment

Shredding

Practically anything – loose paper, plastic or metal wiro bound documents, books, arch-lever files, stapled reports. However, you should not mix paper and hard drives / USB or flash drives because IT assets need to be kept separate for shredding.
Your material will travel to our nearest and appropriate regional depots across the UK – to find out your nearest one Contact Us and we will be happy to help. All shredding services are fully compliant with BS EN 15713:2009 which includes staff vetting to BS7858.
Absolutely – yes. The standard shred particle size is 16mm but we can shred down to 4mm for high security clients (virtually dust!). In 2017, there are new ‘particle’ grades being introduced to the UK and our vehicles already conform to the new particle sizes 1-4.
There isn’t a minimum. Customers range from single-site (below 50 employees) to multi-site (1,000+ employees). Shredding, recycling and frequency of service is entirely personalised to each customer and compliance with recommended guidelines.
Yes you can – both for on-site destruction and off-site, if you choose to attend one of our regional depots.
Your material is removed and locked in a security vehicle which returns to the nearest depot. The material is immediately unloaded and shredded the day it arrives – no delay. A Certificate of Destruction is then posted/emailed to you.

Weee Waste

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) came into force in January 2007.

The WEEE Directive aims to both reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment being produced and to encourage everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle.

The Directive also aims to improve the environmental performance of businesses that manufacture, supply, use, recycle and recover electrical and electronic equipment.

You may also have obligations under the WEEE Regulations if you are a business with electrical or electronic equipment to dispose of, or if you sell electrical or electronic equipment.

WEEE Directive – Layman’s terms
The WEEE directive is complicated and often raises more questions than answers. Whilst comprehensive and up to date information can be found on the Environment Agency’s website, we have provided a summary which we hope will provide a straightforward explanation.

How does it affect my business?
Within the WEEE Directive is the Hazardous Waste Act 2005. Under this legislation any company that disposes of more than 500kg of hazardous electronic equipment per annum must register with the Environment Agency as a producer of hazardous waste.
General IT related equipment that falls under this category are CRT monitors, fluorescent tubes and lead acid batteries, thus if you are not disposing of CRT monitors, batteries or fluorescent tubes you do not need to register. As a guide if you dispose of 40 or more 17” CRT monitors per annum then you will have to register.

What if my business has multiple sites?
If you have multiple sites, then each site that exceeds the 500kg limit will need to register. The Environment Agency does not currently offer site licences.

How do I register?
You can register online with the Environment Agency by clicking here.

Registration costs £18.00 per site or alternatively we can do this for you for £18 plus a £2 admin fee.

You will need to provide your unique SIC code, which WEEE Shred UK can assist you with. Your SIC code is basically a numerical code that defines your type of business.

What about other electronic equipment?
Under the WEEE Directive you still cannot dump redundant electronic equipment, thus you will have to engage the services of a reputable IT disposal company. In addition to your recycling responsibilities you must adhere to the Data Protection Act and WEEE Shred UK ensures that all data is wiped and certified.

Our flexible approach enables us to assess our customers’ requirements on a case-by-case basis and thus provide an accurate and fair cost prior to a project being undertaken.

In order to provide this assessment, WEEE Shred UK will request an asset inventory detailing approximate specification and quantities of equipment to be retired. From this list and through our extensive broker channel, we will advise as to whether there is any residual value in the equipment, which will be used to offset associated retirement costs.

WEEE Shred UK recognises that in many cases IT departments do not have the time or resource to carry out an inventory of equipment of large bulk quantities. In these instances, WEEE Shred UK can attend site and carry out this inventory on our customers’ behalf.

On the day of collection, we provide both a Duty of Care Transfer Note and Hazardous Waste Consignment Note, which have to be signed by both the customer and a WEEE Shred representative.

A comprehensive asset report is produced for every collection. Every item of equipment except for minor peripherals is logged into the asset report. Asset reports are forwarded in electronic format.

A typical asset report will include the following information as a minimum, although additional information can be added if required.

  • Make, model and specification of each item of equipment
  • Unique barcode asset number for each item of equipment
  • Equipment condition (Grade)
  • Customer asset number if applicable
  • Equipment serial number
  • Data erase certification for individual hard drives
  • Confirmation of resale or disposal
  • Additional comments
